VI STÄNGER MUSÉET FÖR GOTT/CLOSED

Det går inte att driva en verksamhet som med lägre bidrag har gjort att det inte blir någonting över för att faktiskt göra ett bra jobb för besökarna och för vår egen del. Att varje år inte veta om det går att ha verksamheten igång nästa år, är ohållbart. Vi hade behövt större, stabila och återkommande bidrag för att verksamheten skulle kunna bedrivas på ett sådant sätt som vi själva vill.

Vi är mycket, mycket tacksamma för alla som har stöttat på olika sätt både med ekonomiska bidrag och peppning, besök och lobbande. Tyvärr, vi kastar alltså in handduken efter 16 år.

Nu kommer det inte att finnas en plats att besöka för de som har släktingar vilka emigrerat till Amerika, Amerikanare som kommer till Sverige kommer inte att kunna besöka och få information om platsen där deras släktingar startade sitt livs resa till det nya landet. De kommer inte att få den fulla bilden presenterad för sig som gör att deras släktingar kanske känns lite mer levande.

Det som är värt att sparas kommer att sorteras, paketeras och arkiveras i förråd, i händelse av att det skulle komma till användning på annat sätt.

All kontorsinredning, datorer, skrivare, stolar, bord, dukar, köksutrustning, (porslin, bestick, glas mm) diverse apparater och annat som inte går att arkivera kommer att säljas eller doneras. Mer info kommer om detta.

De personer som på något sätt har varit involverade i verksamheten och är intresserade av att hjälpa till under avvecklingstiden, är mycket välkomna att höra av er till anne@emigranternashus.se för att få information om vad som ska göras och när.

Despite all efforts and attempts by ourselves and others, we have not been able to keep the running of the Emigrants’ House. We have therefore found it necessary to make the painful decision to move out of these premises on March 31, 2021.

To continue operating a business with reduced contributions meant nothing was left over for improvement or development for our visitors or ourselves. Not knowing from one year to the next whether it would be possible to keep going becomes unsustainable. We would have needed larger, more stable and recurring contributions in order for the business to be conducted in the way we had hoped.

We are extremely grateful to all who have supported in various ways, both with encouragement, financial contributions, visits and lobbying. Unfortunately, we must now throw in the towel after 16 years.

This means those who have relatives who emigrated to America, and the American descendants who visit Sweden, will not be able to visit the actual place their ancestors left from and get the history where their relatives started their life’s journey to the new country. They will not get the full picture presented to them that makes their relatives feel a little bit more alive.

Whatever is worth saving will be sorted, packaged, and archived in the event that it can be used in a future display.

All office furniture, computers, printers, chairs, tables, tablecloths, kitchen equipment (porcelain, cutlery, glasses, etc.) various appliances and other things which cannot be archived will be sold or donated. More information to come regarding this.
